You, you and you

So you're a life scientist. So you know your way around the world of proteins, genes and genetic variation. Of course you do, that's what you're a GeNeYouS for. Yet have you ever wondered about what we - members of GeNeYouS - have in common? It's probably more than "working in life sciences", but we don't know how much exactly. Let's say that you had the opportunity to find out what the common basis of GeNeYouS is. What if GeNeYouS had the facilities, wouldn't you be curious? The 2nd GeNeYouS symposium gives you something unique - your DNA profile - and allows you to look for your relatedness to the other members. We hope to see you there again.

Networking and career planning

The GeNeYouS symposium is not like any other symposium. At this symposium you actually get the time to meet other people. And you're not left on your own. Five members of GeNeYouS will show you what networking is all about and leave you with 90 minutes try-out time. Yet you will not work on your networking skills only; eight workshop sessions are available, of which you can participate in two. The list of workshops includes several high quality training options, on which you would normally spend part of your research budget:
  1. Crashcourse RNAi (Marcel Prins, WUR)
  2. Genomics & Society (Erik Aardens, Corsage)
  3. Creative Thinking (Roger De Bruyn, COCD)
  4. Grant Writing (Romano Baardman, ZonMW)
  5. Drug Discovery Simulation (Jan Klomp, Organon)
  6. Writing for the Press (Simon Vink, WUR)
  7. Organon Factory Tour
  8. Writing Publications (Andrew Sugden, Science Magazine)
  9. Academic Career Planning (the hit of last year, Ruth Winden)

Poster competition

Make money out of your poster. While registering for the symposium, you can send in an abstract of your best poster ever. When you bring your poster to the symposium, you might be selected as one of the winners of the poster competition , with prizes of €100, €50 and €25.

Lectures

A symposium can not do without lectures. This year Peter Groenen of Organon and Barbara Franke - head of the research lab for Multifactorial Diseases of the Radboud University Nijmegen - will talk about two subjects that are related, yet distinctive. Groenen will open the symposium with his view on Genomics in Pharma, while Franke will look at the other side of the coin.
