New boardA young, bright and - it can not be denied - attractive woman has taken over the wheel of GeNeYouS. Our new chairwoman Mirre de Noo is direct and likes "to do things". Hasn't GeNeYouS already done a lot in the past two years? Of course, but a lot more is possible. And the new board is going to make it happen. The second symposium in Oss was a good example of the new direction: interaction, a diverse program and massive information exchange. At the same time GeNeYouS makes a step towards society, as the merge with CORSAGE, the BIOPOP project and the first media appearances show. In brief, GeNeYouS moves on.The GeNeYouS Board, Mirre de Noo (Chairman) Tim Hulsen (Secretary) Ilona Kars (Cashier) David Lutje Hulsik (Education) Wilbert Heijne (Interaction) Roos de Jonge (Events) Terry Vrijenhoek (Communication) |
Symposium: the interaction of DNAGeNeYouS members get their passport of the futureCreate true interaction, was the assignment for the 2005 GeNeYouS symposium committee, which is what they took to heart. DNA passports, a networking game and workshops on creative thinking, career planning and RNAi were some of the results. Both the organising committee and the participants left Oss - where the symposium took place - with a feeling of great satisfaction. "This symposium provides a good starting point for next year," says Wilbert Heijne, member of the board of GeNeYouS and responsible for the symposium organisation. Read more here. |
A corsage for GeNeYouSYoung social scientists enrich young life scientists networkUtrecht - The next generation in life sciences takes a first step towards integrating science into society. With the merge of CORSAGE and GeNeYouS the Netherlands now houses one network for young technical and social researchers working in life sciences. Founded as a platform for discussion and information exchange, CORSAGE aims to connect and support Ph.D. students and postdocs working on the societal aspects of life science. GeNeYouS - the Genomics Network for Young Scientists - provides an umbrella for CORSAGE to further develop its national coverage and activities. Working under the GeNeYouS logo, the two organisations will jointly work on providing a platform, regardless of disciplinary boundaries. Among the activities that CORSAGE and GeNeYouS will jointly organise are workshops on the societal aspects of genomics, science cafes and a European project on scientific communication. More information about CORSAGE is available here. |
GeNeYouS gets two VENIs
Among the 84 young scientists who obtained a VENI grant last March are two members of GeNeYouS. Peter Bram 't Hoen of the Leiden University Medical Center will
use the 200,000 euro grant to study the molecular control of muscle repair. Anneke den Hollander of the Radboud Universty Medical Center got a VENI for her proposal
to search for genes for inherited blindness.
GeNeYouS is proud to have two such talents in their network and congratulates them with their success. For more information, please contact GeNeYouS at info@geneyous.nl.
More information about the VENI program is available at the NWO website.
