kloone4000

The art of cloning

Cloning has the property to be heavily prejudiced and criticized and to appeal to the imagination. In the kloone4000 project, artists and scientists work together to overcome the boundaries of theoretical language and to reach out to the public in an emotional, non-judgmental way: through art. The project takes place in the Retort projectspace in Amsterdam. A part of the retort project space will be set as an exhibition. Most of the artists, who were invited to present their work in the exhibition, are also important in the research project. Next to the exhibition, specialists on the field of cloning will give several lectures and there are possibilities to debate different viewpoints on cloning. The event will take place from 1 September to 15 October at the Retort projectspace. For more information, please visit http://www.kloone.anjeroosjen.com.

GeNeYouS Café

What do you think about Intelligent Design

GeNeYouS organizes its first GeNeYouS Café! At this Café you can meet the other GeNeYouS members on an informal basis. This evening is ideal for some networking or just having a good time, while discussing fundamental issues of life sciences. During this evening several experts give an introduction on Intelligent Design, and its recent impact on public opinion. The GeNeYouS members will then debate their own point of view on Intelligent Design with a free drink and some (enriched) snacks. The first GeNeYouS Café is organized on September 22, in Café Lofen (near the Domtoren, Utrecht) and will start at 19:00.

Genomics Momentum – Young Researchers Program

Genomic future in Health

The Genomics Momentum, organized by the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, will this year take place on October 5, in the Netherlands Congress Centre in The Hague. The central theme will be the emerging benefits of genomics for health. In parallel and nonparallel sessions, leading experts on this field will share the latest developments with the audience. The Genomics Plaza will provide an excellent opportunity to meet fellow researchers and future employers, and strike new deals.
During the afternoon program, GeNeYouS will organize the Young Researchers Program. Young researchers can participate in two interesting workshop, in which they can discuss future implementation of genomics in health issues, and come up with creative, innovative solutions for the most important issues of health problems.

Workshop I: Disease & Medication
Speakers: Prof. Dr. Rob Tollenaar (LUMC) and Dr. Gerrit-Jan Liefers (KWF)

Workshop II: Disease & Nutrition
Speakers: Dr. Wim Saris (Univ. Maastricht/DSM) and Dr. Keith Grimaldi (Sciona Ltd.)

Because participation space is limited, please register as soon as possible at http://www.geneyous.nl/momentum_yrp.html.

Genomics Momentum – Afterparty

Young researchers meet young entrepreneurs

After the Genomics Momentum, GeNeYous organizes together with the Network for Young Entrepreneurs in Life Sciences (YelsNet) an exciting afterparty. During an informal dinner, there is a chance to meet young entrepreneurs on the field of life sciences and exchange views and ideas.

General Assembly

Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one

The next General Assembly is planned October 27. Before the general meeting, a workshop will be given by Maarten van den Berg. In 3 hours he will discuss the optimal techniques for communicating and for coordinating groups. Every member of GeNeYouS is vigorously invited to speak out his ideas and opinions in the following meeting.

Late Dies Natalis

Happy birthday GeNeYouS

Due to some incidents, the Dies Natalis, that should have taken place May 25 was postponed. The happy day will now take place December 7. During this day, a training, "Organizing activities", will be given by Tonnie Buitink (event manager of the University of Twente), organizer of Lowlands and Batavieren Feest among other things. The training will cover various aspects of the subject, like fund raising. After the workshop, the group will move to a restaurant downtown for a well-deserved dinner, paid for by GeNeYouS. This activity is solely for the GeNeYouS board- and committee members. For more information, browse to http://www.tonnie-online.nl. Please register: ilona@geneyous.nl.
